PETAL, Miss. (WDAM) – Petal Elementary School is looking forward to some new upgrades after being named a 2024 Healthy Schools Award recipient by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Mississippi.
The Foundation presented Petal Elementary School with a check for $50,000 to further their health and wellness program efforts.
School officials said they look forward to making sure students are healthy both physically and mentally.
“We're looking at ways to increase students' ability to develop physical wellness through gym classes and outside playground activities,” said Petal Elementary Principal Win Mims. “Another is developing social wellness through our counselor program and incorporating those character traits into general education classes.”
Mims said the school plans to purchase play equipment, expand curriculum and set up a healthy snack bar for students.
