Georgia Hall, Anna Nordqvist, Emily Christine Pedersen and Albane Valenzuela were selected by Pettersen.
Osterley, 26 August 2024 – Europe Captain Suzann Pettersen has today announced, live on Sky Sports, the four captaincy selections that will complete the line-up of 12 players who will represent Europe at the 2024 Solheim Cup.
With the AIG Women's Open at St. Andrews coming to a close and the qualifying period wrapping up, Pettersen had to make the final decision on who to add to the eight players who would automatically qualify.
Europe is chasing history, having won in 2019 and 2021 and hoping to follow defending champions Spain in retaining the trophy for a fourth consecutive tournament in 2023.
Team Europe will add a second rookie, Switzerland's Albane Valenzuela, who will be competing in his first Solheim Cup alongside the team's other rookie, Estelle Henseleit.
Valenzuela joins Denmark's Emily Christine Pedersen, England's Georgia Hall and Sweden's Anna Nordqvist as the four captain-designate players who will travel to Robert Trent Jones Golf Club from Sept. 13-15.
Hall is a two-time Ladies European Tour (LET) winner and will be competing in the Solheim Cup for the fifth consecutive time.
“I'm happy to be part of Team Europe. This is my fifth Solheim Cup and it's always great to represent Europe,” said Hall.
“Having won the previous three times and being part of it has always made me want to do it again. I'm delighted that Susan chose me and I'm looking forward to putting this experience to good use when I get to the USA in a few weeks.”
Nordqvist will serve as an alternate captain again after serving as an alternate captain in 2023, and with nine appearances she is the most capped Swede in the tournament, surpassing Annika Sorenstam, Helen Alfredsson and Sofie Gustafsson.
“There is no greater honor than representing Europe at the Solheim Cup, so I am incredibly excited to have been selected to compete in my ninth Solheim Cup,” Nordqvist said. “This is beyond my childhood dreams.”
“This tournament has meant so much to me and my family over the years and words cannot describe the feeling I will have when I step onto the first tee box. I have enjoyed taking on the role of playing vice-captain for the past two years and learning how much work goes into this event behind the scenes and I can't wait to hit my tee shot.”
This will be Pedersen's fourth Solheim Cup appearance and he is tied with Ivan Tinning for the most caps for Denmark. Pedersen made his debut in 2017 and has also appeared for the national team in 2021 and 2023.
“I'm very happy to be selected again,” said Pedersen. “I love Solheim and team golf and I'm proud to be playing for Europe again!”
“I've always looked up to Susan and I'm excited to once again be competing in the Solheim Cup on American soil.”
Valenzuela will make history in September when he becomes the first Swiss player to represent Europe at the Solheim Cup.
The 26-year-old will attend LET Q School in December 2022 with the aim of gaining LET membership and qualifying for the European team, making her dream come true in just over 18 months.
“It feels really surreal and like a dream come true,” Valenzuela said. “I've always dreamed of joining this team since I was a kid.”
“I was competing at the PING Junior Solheim Cup with my eyes lit up, looking up at these girls and thinking maybe one day it could be me. And it has become a reality and now I'm a part of that team. I'm overjoyed, proud, happy and filled with all the emotions!”
Captain Pettersen said of the selection of the four players: “Georgia has already proven from past experience that she is a very passionate player at the Solheim Cup and is someone we want on our team.”
“Anna has the experience – her impressive record at the Solheim Cup speaks for itself – and she knows what it takes.”
“Emily is a player who lives for the Solheim Cup. She has great passion along with past experience. I know what I'm getting with Emily. She brings a lot to the team and is a great team player!”
“It's great to have Alban on the team. She's played solid golf the past two years and has proven herself a great fit for this team, especially this year. She's a great ball-striker and brings a lot of good energy to the team room.”
These four players are joined by Great Britain's Charlie Hull and Germany's Henseleitn, who qualified through points from the LET Solheim Cup, France's Celine Boutier, Ireland's Leona Maguire and Spain's Carlota Ciganda, as well as Sweden's Maja Stark, Lynn Grant and Madeleine Sagstrom, who qualified through the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings.
