Approximately 20 strong storms and typhoons hit the Philippine Islands every year. However, they are rarely created in such a short period of time.
According to PAP news agency, the Philippine Meteorological Department reported that super typhoon Manyi is approaching the coast of Catanduanes Island and continues to gain strength. It is currently producing winds of 195 to 240 km/h, Rappler reported.
The Ministry of Interior ordered the immediate evacuation of vulnerable areas, especially coastal and low-lying areas. The weather forecast is predicting a storm with a height of 7 meters. Philippine authorities ordered all ships to return to port.
“This is not a joke. Please evacuate immediately,” warned Jonvic Remura, the police chief.
