Approximately 20 strong storms and typhoons hit the Philippine Islands every year. However, they are rarely created in such a short period of time.
According to PAP news agency, the Philippine Meteorological Department reported that super typhoon Manyi is approaching the coast of Catanduanes Island and continues to gain strength. It is currently producing winds of 195 to 240 km/h, Rappler reported.
The Ministry of Interior ordered the immediate evacuation of vulnerable areas, especially coastal and low-lying areas. The weather forecast is predicting a storm with a height of 7 meters. Philippine authorities ordered all ships to return to port.
“This is not a joke. Please evacuate immediately,” warned Jonvic Remura, the police chief.

Manyi, known as Pepito by locals, is the sixth super typhoon to hit the Philippines this month. According to government data, the previous typhoons Tarami and Konrei caused flooding and landslides, leaving 162 people dead and 22 missing.
According to AFP news agency, 650,000 people have been evacuated so far. The endangered population of Catanduanes Island is under threat from Manyi.
