I think the price of the Christmas tree will be similar to last year, there is a lot of competition – said Stefan Trachik, president of the Association of Foresters and Forest Owners. He added that some of the Christmas trees that are sold come to our country from abroad. For example, Caucasian spruce comes from Denmark to Poland and accounts for “about 90 percent of sales” in Poland.
The president of the Association of Foresters and Forest Owners, Stefan Trachik, said that they should be at the level of the previous year. Last year, the media reported that the average price of Christmas trees ranged from PLN 30 to PLN 300, depending on the type and size.
The price of a Christmas tree
– I think that the price of a Christmas tree will be similar to last year, there is a lot of competition, so it may turn out that the prices will remain unchanged – said Trachik. However, the interlocutor of APA emphasized that the association he leads does not trade with such spruce, although “many foresters are somehow related to this market.”
Traczyk added that he has not heard about the export of Christmas trees by Polish entrepreneurs, because growing them takes a long time.
However, he noted that some of the Christmas trees sold in Poland come to our country from abroad. – Many of the Christmas trees sold on the Polish market are produced in the plantations of north-western Poland, but many of them are also imported from abroad, for example from Denmark, – said Traczyk.
Caucasian spruce accounts for “about 90 percent of sales across Poland.”
Regarding the import of Christmas trees to Poland, Artur Luczak, their sales coordinator for the Eastern European market from Green Product A/S Denmark, emphasized that this market is constantly developing. On the Internet you can find companies that have plantations on the Jutland peninsula and offer Christmas trees for sale in our country.
Luczak explains that mainly Caucasian spruce is imported from Denmark, which accounts for “about 90 percent of sales across Poland.” Denmark is considered in many ways to be the capital of Caucasian spruce. The representative of the company explained that this is due to the fact that the tree needs specific climatic conditions and in “the center of Poland it does not grow (…) it just freezes.”
– In Denmark, the climate is more maritime and mild, where the Caucasian spruce grows very well, – he emphasized.
In Poland, among others, there are plantations of Caucasian juniper. in Pomerania Gdańsk (Wicko region) and Bedzinek (West Pomeranian Voivodeship) and are managed by private entrepreneurs.
– At the moment, the price of spruce has become very expensive due to the decrease and decrease of plantations (…) its price increases significantly from year to year, up to 30 percent, – Luchak explained.
He reported that a wholesale Caucasian fir costs up to 20 euros (about PLN 85), adding that “we are talking about net prices plus transport costs.”
