A passenger on a flight from Guinea-Bissau to Lisbon went into labor on board. The pilot had to make an emergency landing on the island of Madeira, where a woman gave birth to a baby boy. This was the beginning of something unexpected. It turned out that the new mother had several passports of minors in her luggage.
During the flight to Lisbon, the Guinea-Bissau national went into labor. As a result, the pilot made an emergency landing in Funchal on the island of Madeira, the daily Jornal de Noticias reported.
Soon after, the woman gave birth to a baby boy. A happy solution on a Portuguese island turned into a source of trouble for the mother of a newborn. Several passports of minors and an unknown substance were found in her luggage.
The explanatory hearing lasted four days. The woman testified that she was supposed to give the documents to a “consenting party in Lisbon.”

The detained mother was eventually released and allowed to continue her flight to Lisbon after laboratory analysis revealed that the substance was not on the list of prohibited imports.
Police said they ultimately decided to allow the young mother to continue her journey to Lisbon.
At the same time, the woman notified authorities that she wanted her child back. The reason was that they could not afford to support the boy. The newborn baby is already being cared for at one of the facilities on Madeira Island.

It is unclear whether the woman still has a passport.
As the newspaper points out, Guinea-Bissau is a country that suffers from a number of illegal activities, including: human trafficking.
