The National Diabetes Prevention Program's lifestyle change program was developed specifically to prevent type 2 diabetes. This program was designed for people who are prediabetic or at risk for type 2 diabetes but do not yet have diabetes.
Programs are led by trained lifestyle coaches who help you make changes to specific lifestyle habits, such as eating healthier, reducing stress and increasing activity. Programs also include group support with others who have the same goals and concerns. Offered both in-person and online.
This lifestyle change program is not a fad diet or exercise class, nor is it a temporary solution – it's a year-long program focused on long-term change and lasting results.
A year may seem like a long commitment, but it takes time to form new habits, learn new skills, and gain confidence. As you improve your diet and become more active, you'll notice a change in how you feel. You might even notice a change in how you look.

Creating an action plan
Take a risk test to find a program
First, find out if you are at risk for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes. Take the online test. If you are at high risk, talk to your health professional about getting your blood sugar tested.
