Romanian President Klaus Iohanis has announced his resignation. Explaining his decision, he showed that this step was to prevent the country from becoming a political crisis. Protests have been underway in relation to the cancelled presidential election since last fall.

“To save this pointless and negative crisis… I will give up on the position of the President,” he wrote in a short statement.
