Singer Sam Moore died on Friday at the age of 89 due to complications from surgery. The musician was best known for creating the duo Sam and Dave in the 1960s. He was the author of the hits “Man of the Soul” and “Basta, I’m coming”. His wife announced the death of the artist on Saturday.
He achieved his greatest artistic success in the 1960s as a co-founder of the duo Sam and Dave, which he formed with singer David Prater. Together they recorded such hits as “Soul Man”, “Hold On, I’m Coming”, “You Don’t Know Like I Know”, “And I Thank You” and “When Something’s Wrong With My Baby”. .
They also became famous for their live performances and dances presented on stage. The duo was one of the most popular acts to record on the legendary Stax label in Memphis, for which songs were written by Isaac Hayes and David Porter and featured as “court bands” by Booker T. and the MG’s. .
Sam Moore is dead
In the 1970s, Moore decided to pursue a solo career, but he did not repeat his past successes. Although active again, the Sam and Dave duo broke up in 1981. Prather died in a car accident in 1988. Moore has admitted in interviews that he hasn’t spoken to her in over ten years, even when they were performing together. They avoided eye contact on stage and went to their dressing rooms after the show.
In 2006, the singer’s solo album “Overnight Sensational” was released, which featured guests including: Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Mariah Carey, Steve Winwood, Sting and Jon Bon Jovi.
The news of the artist’s death was announced by his wife on Saturday. Moore died on January 10 of complications following surgery.
