TILBURG, Netherlands (Reuters) – Thousands of people came together to celebrate redheads in the southern Dutch town of Tilburg this weekend for the town's annual Redhead Day festival.
Ellen Linderstad, an architecture student, told Reuters she travelled more than 24 hours by train and bus from Stockholm to travel to the event because she doesn't see many redheads in Sweden.
“It's really special coming to a place where everywhere you look there are redheads,” the 21-year-old said.
Redheads make up 1% to 2% of the world's population and 2% to 6% of people of Northern or Northwestern European descent.
According to organisers, more than 10,000 people from over six countries attended the three-day festival, taking part in photo shoots, speed meet events and various workshops.
The event usually ends with a group photo, but in 2013, 1,672 redheads were photographed, setting a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of natural redheads.
