Romania's Ministry of Defense has prepared a bill that would allow it to shoot down drones that violate its airspace. According to Defense Department representatives, the proposed changes are a response to the increasing level of threats to life and property.
The bill was introduced to the public on Monday. At that time, in a so-called public forum, representatives of various organizations will be able to propose their own amendments to the original version of the law proposed by the Romanian Ministry of Defense.

According to the proposed project, procedures will be introduced that must be met in order to fire at objects that have illegally entered the airspace.
In the case of aircraft, it is important to establish the exact location and identity of the aircraft. Then, the person in charge of airspace defense attempts to make contact and intercept. The use of warning shots is then authorized.
Ultimately, it can only be destroyed if the plane launches a direct attack or “actively responds to interception.”

In the case of unmanned aircraft, the procedure is simplified. The key factor will be determining the level of threat. If the service confirms that there is a concern that an object will fall onto an urban area, the object will be neutralized or hijacked.
Justifying the change, representatives of the Romanian Ministry of Defense announced that within a month, their radar systems had detected four cases of drones violating the country's airspace.
