The prosecutor’s director of Organized Crime and Terrorism in Romania (DICOT) has notified the arrest of six men suspected of participating in an organized criminal group that is striving to carry out a government coup.
According to the Service, their goal was to “undermine the sovereignty and independence of the Romanian state by undermining the political and defensive potential of the country.”

The suspects are to carry out their activities from 2023, and over the past two years they have contacted foreign agents in both Romania and Russia.
According to DICOT, the organization was created by modeling military structures and obtaining individual degrees similar to those enforced in the Army. It centered around 101-year-old retired Rado Theodor, known for his highly anti-Semitic publications.
Romanian Services reported that in January two of the six detainees went to Moscow where they had contacted people who were trying to support their efforts to gain power in Romania. The group not only wanted to overthrow the current government, but also wanted to quickly fill all public positions with representatives. They were recruited through internet platforms.

Members of the organization were particularly to carry out “continuous, conscious, public or underground” actions. Romanian speech with NATO or adoption of a new constitution. They wanted to change the country’s name, flag, and national anthem.
On Thursday, the Bucharest Court of Appeals is due to receive a request for the suspect’s arrest, and investigators will allow the two to stay at home.

Daicott’s actions are the second loud problem of Russian influence in Romania. At the end of February, Romanian Services cancelled the winner of Calina Georgescu, the first round of the presidential election, by the Constitutional Court. Local media said he was to be detained when he intended to register his candidacy in the recurring election scheduled for May 4th.
Calin Georgescu is being investigated by the General Prosecutor’s Office, accused of joining fascist organisations and promoting controversial ideology and historical figures in public spaces such as Antonescu. The action took place on the same day that he conducted dozens of searches at Mercenary Group Horatsiu Proto, head of the Georgescu Protection team.

Previously, investigators reported that they conducted 47 searches of people and associations associated with controversial politicians as part of a broader criminal investigation into several allegations, including fraud in relation to funding and activities of a campaign against the constitutional order. Georgescu is not currently considered suspicious.
During their search for services, they found weapons, acute ammunition, and over $1 million hidden in safes. BGNEST’s press reminds us that Georgescu has become an unexpected winner of the first round of the presidential election, but the Romanian Constitutional Court has negated these results after confidential documents from the current presidential office showed irregularity during the election.
