Dmitry Medvedev published his paper in an article in the “Journal of International Affairs”. This is a monthly magazine that publishes publications of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In his summary of the world situation, he wrote specifically about Ukraine.
In his opinion, Ukraine must either ally with Russia or “disappear from the world map.” He also said that no one is asking Ukrainians to sacrifice for freedom. It is unclear what Medvedev means by “freedom,” especially after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Medvedev: “Ukraine will disappear like Manchukuo''
According to a Russian politician, Ukrainians must “quiet their pride in being other” and “exorcise the demon of political Ukrainianness.”
“Russia is culturally, linguistically and politically irreplaceable for Ukraine,” he added. He stressed that if Russia “continues to pursue an aggressive Russophobic course”, it will disappear like Manchukuo, the puppet state created by Japan in occupied Manchuria in the 1930s.
“Russians and Ukrainians are one people. Any attempt to drive a wedge between us is absolutely unsustainable and criminal from a historical perspective,” Medvedev wrote.
