Alexander Dasshou has become the new Russian ambassador for the United States – let the Russian media know by quoting Vladimir Putin’s order. The official previously served as head of the Russian agency in Canada. Anatoly Antonov, the US’s last Russian ambassador, left his position in October 2024.
Vladimir Putin has appointed Alexander Dasshou as the US ambassador to Russia.
“I appoint Alexander Nikitwitz Dershew, an extraordinary ambassador to the Russian Federation of the United States and a permanent observer of the Russian Federation in the United States of Washington state,” says a text of the law signed by Putin.

Darshu has previously served as director of the North Atlantic Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. He also led a Russian delegation during negotiations with the US in Istanbul on February 28, 2025. At the time, the US transferred Russia’s memorandum of understanding, including an agreement on the appointment of Darshu, to the Russian side.
For diplomats, this means returning to America from 2005 to 2010. He was a pastor at the Russian Embassy. Then, from 2014 to 2021, Darshu was the Russian ambassador to Canada.

Anatoly Antonov, the US’s last Russian ambassador, left his position in October 2024. As the Kremlin said, “In a situation where American officials have not yet been in touch with the Russian ambassador, who remains unfortunate, rather than taking this position.”
The US has resumed contact with Russia. “They can destroy the world order.”
Putin’s decision on the appointment of a Russian ambassador to the United States after the new US administration led by Donald Trump decided to resume contact with Moscow.
Since then, the US president has halted military aid to Ukraine and limited his support for Kiev at the intelligence report level.
