Corner Predictions: Colts +1.5 1H -140 (FanDuel)
Neither team is expected to use their starters, but Sam Ehlinger is expected to start for the Colts and play most of the first half, while Desmond Ridder is expected to start for the Cardinals and play a significant portion of the first half.
Ehlinger has been consistently good in the preseason and the Colts are favored going into the first half. Since the chances of a tie at first half are around 8-10%, I think a +1.5 spread that guarantees a win even if the first half ends in a tie is worth a lot.
FanDuel is offering +1.5 at -140 and DraftKings is offering +0.5 at -130, and I prefer to pay an extra 10 cents since I could potentially cash this if the Cards go into halftime up 7-6, but I'd still offer +0.5 at -130.
But I expect the Cardinals, with Clayton Tune under center, to have the advantage in the second half, and the Colts will likely rely on Kedon Slovis and wide receiver Jason Bean, who recently transitioned to quarterback.
Corner Prediction: Jets 1H +0.5 -125 (DraftKings)
Jack Plummer predictably flopped in his NFL debut last week, playing the majority of the game. Assuming Carolina rests their starters again tonight, Plummer should start and play at least the first half.
The Jets will likely hand the offense to Andrew Peaslee, whose Week 1 performance showed far more promise than Plummer, for a series or two with Tyrod Taylor before handing the offense over to him.
I think the Jets have a slight advantage in this game, especially in the first half, and I expect a 10-12% chance of a low-scoring draw, especially in the first half, so betting the Jets at -125 and +0.5 feels like a bargain.
The Jets are worth considering again in the second half if they can get some points.
Pick: Under 33.5 -112 (DraftKings)
The first half will likely be a battle between Stetson Bennett and Easton Stick, who lost badly in Week 1. With his job as the Chargers' backup QB on the line, I expect him to bounce back somewhat, but the Chargers' offensive line was a disaster last week and should struggle against the Rams' second unit.
It will be even worse in the second half, with Bennett and Dresser-Winn likely facing off against Max Duggan and Luis Perez, who may actually be the best quarterback in the game but will likely only serve as a cleaner in the fourth quarter.
Not only is this one of the weakest QB charts we'll see in a game, but both defenses also performed well last week. This will be an absolutely terrible game in terms of points. I think it makes sense to lock in a full game total rather than targeting points during a specific half or game.
Pick: 37 -110 or better (DraftKings)
This game is expected to be a high-scoring preseason matchup in Week 2 with neither team expected to field a starter, and we will see a QB battle between the two teams as all four QBs compete for the backup role.
The first half will likely be CJ Beatard vs. Kyle Trask, both low-level, second-tier QBs who have performed well in the preseason. The second half will be John Wolford vs. Mac Jones. Wolford looked good last week and Jones looked very good, reaffirming his status as both a high-end backup and potentially a below-average starter.
Given the QB matchup, I think we can expect consistent scoring throughout the game, especially with the No. 3 quarterback not scheduled to play.
