First, two bystanders – paramedics, then a paramedic, a crew of an ambulance and an air ambulance helicopter, and police officers joined this action to save the life of a skier who fainted on the slopes of Shirk on Monday.
Tens of minutes later, a 70-year-old man was able to regain his vital functions and was airlifted to the hospital. According to the representatives of the Beskidzka GOPR group, before noon, the rescuers of the Shchirk headquarters received a message from the operator number 112 that one of the users of the Shirk mountain resort has passed out. This information was conveyed to rescuers on duty from Hala Skrjichenska while trying to determine the exact location of the incident.

Those present have already helped
It turned out that the accident happened on route number 3. When the mountain rescue team arrived there, two other people were already helping the unconscious skier from the slopes – a paramedic student and a paramedic, probably a Norwegian citizen. Rescuers took over surgical operations from witnesses and continued defibrillation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. They asked the headquarters to send an LPR helicopter. – The medical rescue team of the Bielsko Ambulance Service was also sent to the lower station of the elevator, which was transported to the scene by a GOPR rescuer, who helped to implement advanced medical rescue procedures, – explained the rescue team. Rescuers were also helped by the ski patrol of the police, who stopped the traffic on this route and helped in the rescue operation. Center staff were asked to turn off the snow cannons, and then rescuers prepared a landing site for the LPR.

40 minutes of resuscitation resulted
– After approximately 40 minutes of effective resuscitation and defibrillation, the man was able to regain spontaneous circulation and was transported to the LPR helicopter crew while maintaining his breathing. On a helicopter, he went to the American center in Poland in Bielsko-Biala, added representatives of GOPR. Seven GOPR rescuers, two EMS rescuers, several police officers and an LPR crew participated in the operation. – The help of the skiers was also decisive, because they immediately started rescue operations. We would like to thank everyone who participated in the events. “Thanks to the excellent cooperation, this event was successfully completed,” the participants concluded.
