LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Elizabeth Banks is setting box office records this weekend in the new thriller “Skinny.”
She plays a beauty professional whose reputation has been severely “tarnished” by someone bent on destroying her.
Banks will play an esthetician who is looking to launch her own product line after putting everything she's got into the business.
“Skin Care is a story about a woman sort of aging in an industry that values beauty and youth and, above all, newness,” Banks says. “As a middle-aged Hollywood actress, I could relate to that.”
In this movie, someone suddenly tries to ruin her reputation, her business, and her life. But who is it? And why?
As you watch the film, you can almost sense her despair.
“When I read that, I felt a sense of despair, too,” Banks said.
“I think the character is fantastic,” she added. “I think she's really representative of the times we're in. We all feel like the world is passing us by. It's going by so fast we can't keep up.”
“Skin Care” is inspired by a true story, and Banks knew she was an expert in the field.
“I took a lot of classes,” she says, “and I trained my family, and I still sometimes give my boys facials at night before they go to bed. My youngest son, especially, he'll come over and ask me for a facial, like, 'Mommy, can I give you a facial before I go to bed?' I love that.”
“I love connecting with them and, frankly, I love being able to talk to my pre-teen sons about hygiene because it's becoming more and more important in my house.”
“Skin Care” is rated R. It's in theaters now.
