In an open letter to the Prime Minister of this country, a group of psychologists and psychiatrists from Slovakia assessed that his actions are changing the political culture and polarizing the society. They called on Robert Fika to reconsider or leave politics. In response, the head of the government assessed that the specialists had abused their profession and threatened to inform the international organizations about their activities.
More than 100 psychiatrists and psychologists in Slovakia have called on Prime Minister Robert Fico to reconsider or leave politics. The authors of the letter emphasized that they do not evaluate the personality of the head of the government. However, they are worried about the changes in the political culture of Slovakia and the perception of democratic values, which are under the influence of the activities of the prime minister and the evaluations of his statements. They also expressed concern about the internal political situation and the international position of Slovakia.

Professionals with an authoritarian style, manipulating facts and attacking competitors
The experts wrote, “Your political behavior is increasingly characterized by an authoritarian style, falsification of facts, lies, ridicule and attacks on political opponents, journalists and ordinary citizens who show that they disagree with your policies.” According to them, the political behavior of the Prime Minister and the ideas developed by him polarize the society and affect the emotions.
Doctors and psychiatrists noted that the prime minister’s aggression and emotional apathy worsened after the attack on his life when he was shot in May 2024. They emphasized that the Prime Minister’s pressure may have consequences for him in the future.
The initiators of the open letter are famous professors: psychologist Anton Heretik and psychologist Josef Hasto. They emphasized that they were never and are not members of political parties.

Fika’s answer
The Prime Minister responded to the open letter online. He found that the authors had abused their professional career for political purposes. He threatened to inform international organizations about their activities.
Fico also wrote back that he had no doubt that the professors would support the “Slovak Square”, a coup by the opposition.

He stressed that parliamentary elections are needed to change the government, not “pseudo-medical aspects”. In his opinion, the specialists who signed the open letter of the two professors are known in the society as opponents of the current government policy.
Robert Fico criticized the course of the prophecy
Robert Fico has recently been criticized for taking a pro-Russian course. In recent days, Slovakia has openly criticized Volodymyr Zelensky for stopping gas transit from Russia, which used to go through Ukraine and its recipients, among others. Slovakia.
The prime minister also threatened Zelensky that if he does not resume gas transit, he will veto EU decisions on aid to Kyiv, suspend humanitarian aid such as mine clearance and electricity transfers, and limit aid to Ukrainians in Slovakia. .
Fico’s December visit to Moscow and talks in the Kremlin with Vladimir Putin had a negative impact on the tense relations between Slovakia and Ukraine.
The actions of the politician are also met with dissatisfaction among Slovaks. Last week, several thousand people gathered in front of the government headquarters in Bratislava. Demonstrators demanded that the prime minister stop cooperation with Russia and change the direction of the country’s foreign policy.
