On Sunday, Slovak mountain rescue teams succeeded in removing the Polish man's body from the mountain trail. He led a group of people to the top of Gerlach, but fell while hiking. The tourists were unable to navigate the high mountains on their own as they did not have proper equipment. The rescue operation was one of the most difficult.
On Saturday morning, our country's equivalent of the GOPR, the Horska Zahranna station, received a report that a group of Poles were stranded on the Tatarka road near Gerlach. It turns out that tourists do not have the necessary climbing equipment for such a difficult path.
The group was led by one of the members who suddenly collapsed while hiking. The rest lost all contact with him and were unable to move anywhere on their own.

I asked the rescuers of Poprad for help. Unfortunately, the helicopter could not be used due to strong winds and poor visibility. Two relief groups had to reach those in need by land.

When they entered the mountain trail, the body of a man who had fallen to his death was discovered. After a few meters, rescuers encountered another tourist in the group, who was extremely cold. The remaining two people were found after 300 meters.
“The men and women were unable to continue their journey on their own. They were provided with the necessary care. After making preparations, the mountain rescue team provided them with the necessary equipment,” Horska said.・Zahranna Srzba says:

The tourists were guided using ropes to the Tetomajela Pass and then descended to the Batijowiecka Gorge. Rescue efforts were hampered by strong winds and a thin layer of ice covering the rocky road. After a difficult descent into the gorge, tourists were transported by off-road vehicle to Stary Smokovets.
