New Delhi:
The Karnataka government on Thursday approved the ambitious Bengaluru Skydeck project, which will be the tallest structure in South Asia at a whopping cost of Rs 5,000 crore, a major boost to the city's infrastructure and provide a 360-degree view of India's hi-tech capital.
The height of the tower will be around 250 metres. For reference, the Qutub Minar monument in Delhi is 73 metres tall, so a 250 metres tall one will be more than three times the height of Qutub Minar.
The CNTC Presidential Tower, the tallest building in Bangalore, is estimated to be over 160 metres tall.
“The Karnataka government has approved the construction of the tallest sky deck in South Asia. The sky deck will be built in the city at a cost of Rs 5,000 crore and will offer a 360-degree view of the technology capital of India,” Karnataka Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs H.K. Patil said.
The Skydeck, which is to be constructed on NICE Road in the outskirts of Bangalore, will be equipped with world-class facilities for tourists and will also be connected to the metro to ensure hassle-free access for tourists.
It is currently unclear what facilities will be included on the Sky Deck, other than luxury shopping facilities.
The government initially wanted to build the Skydeck in the heart of Bangalore, but two major challenges emerged: first, finding 25 acres of land in the heart of the city was difficult, and second, the Ministry of Defence facilities in many parts of the city were opposed to such a tall tower.
Building a very tall tower in the heart of the city could pose a threat to civilians and military airports, which is why the Skydeck project was approved on the outskirts of Bangalore.
The Karnataka government has also constructed a two-way tunnel from Hebbal to Silk Board Junction in Bangalore at a massive cost of Rs 12.69 crore.
