Isak Andic, the billionaire founder of the Mango clothing chain, has died while hiking in the mountains near Barcelona. A 71-year-old man slipped and fell onto a 100-meter-high cliff.
Isak Andic died on Saturday while hiking with his family in a cave in the Montserrat massif near Barcelona. The 71-year-old man slipped and fell down a 150-metre cliff, Spanish newspaper El Pais reported.

Police received a report of the accident just before 1 p.m. Police, a specialist mountain rescue group and a helicopter were dispatched to the scene. However, there was no help for the millionaire and he was soon pronounced dead.

The billionaire's death was confirmed by, among others: Mango CEO Toni Lewis. “His death left a huge void, but we are all in some way a testament to his legacy,” he wrote.
Catalonia's President Salvador Ira Roca also expressed his condolences. “I am saddened by this loss,” X wrote on stage. He described Andic as a “dedicated businessman” who “helped make Catalonia great and show it to the world.”
“He left a permanent mark on the Catalan and global fashion industry. My thoughts and the entire government extend my condolences to his family, friends and the Mango team,” he wrote.

Isak Andic was born in Turkey, but moved to Catalonia, Spain with his family when he was 13 years old. While in high school, he started selling T-shirts to friends and soon moved his “business” to the local Balmes Street market. Sales were so good that they opened their first Mango store in 1984.

According to Forbes magazine, his net worth was $4.5 billion. Mango sales in 2023 were 3.1 billion euros, accounting for 33%. Its business is conducted online. The company operates in more than 120 countries with more than 2,700 stores.
Andic is the richest person in Catalonia and the fourth richest person in Spain. His company Mango is one of the biggest competitors of another Spanish giant, Zara. The chain, owned by Inditex, is the first retailer in Spain.
