“Stanford Taiko was formed in 1992 and is the second oldest collegiate taiko group in the United States and is entirely student-run,” Maceda continued. “Since its inception, we have operated by consensus, with students actively involved in decision-making and repertoire direction.”
Following Stanford Taiko's three-day tour of Thailand, all members and alumni were looking forward to the group's debut in Manila. The ensemble first toured Thailand in 2004, and subsequently returned in 2006, 2009, 2013, and 2017. Thanks to the efforts of the American-Thai Foundation, the Yonok Foundation, and Dr. Nirund Jivasantikarn, Stanford Taiko performed well at the True Digital Park along Sukhumvit Road, the Recreation Hall in Lampang, and the EC Court Auditorium at Payap University in Chiang Mai. But for many, the tour was also an introduction to the Philippines for many of the group's members.
“We are equally grateful to the Ramos and Maceda families for their incredible support of our Philippine tour,” the Stanford Taiko program pamphlet reads. “Indeed, we embarked on this tour with deep gratitude and appreciation for all our sponsors who have worked tirelessly on our behalf,” the joint statement continues.
