More than 50 people were injured in a head-on collision between two trams in Strasbourg, France. Several people were taken to the hospital, authorities said. Police are investigating the cause of the incident.
The incident occurred in Strasbourg, eastern France, on Saturday. Two trams collided in an underground tunnel near Central Station around 3:30 p.m. More than 100 people took part in the incident.

– Two trams caused a serious collision in front of the station. More than 50 people were injured, René Cellier of the Baran fire brigade told SIS67.

No one was seriously injured, the Figaro newspaper said. More than a dozen people were hospitalized with broken limbs, cuts and bruises. This information was confirmed by Strasbourg Mayor Jeanne Barseghian.
– There are still injured people at the station. He has broken bones, cuts, and a concussion, but I don’t think he has any head injuries. Nevertheless, we remain vigilant (…). My thoughts are with the injured and their loved ones. She said on social media that she would give her full support to the rescue teams involved in the rescue operation.

Traffic was temporarily suspended on tram lines A and D on the Parc des Sports-Potry and Langstros-Grand-Rus lines. A rescue facility was set up in front of the station, and relief efforts for the injured continued. Although no one was injured, many people are in shock.
The tram driver was not injured.

It is unclear why the accident occurred. An unofficial report in the French press said there was a “logistical” error. One of the trams went off the tracks and collided head-on with another tram. The exact circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
