President Joe Biden said in a speech Sunday that the United States does not know where Assad is. He mentioned reports in Russian media that Syria's former dictator and his family had flown to Moscow. “These are (just) words,” the US leader commented.
Later on Sunday, the 19th Polish time, US President Joe Biden issued a statement in connection with the events in Syria, where rebels overthrew Bashar al-Assad's regime.
At the outset, he expressed satisfaction with the collapse of Syria's dictatorship, which had lasted 24 years. “Neither Russia nor Iran nor Hezbollah will defend the regime,” he said.
“The United States will work with our partners in Syria,” Biden asserted, referring to the volatile situation in the Middle Eastern country.
He vowed that the United States would “support Syria's neighbors during the transition period.” “In the coming days, I will be speaking with regional leaders and sending representatives of my administration to the area,” he announced.
He added that Washington would also consult with the rebels.
