TAIPEI, Aug. 25 (Central News Agency) — Taiwan's Olympic breakdancer Sun Zhen won the Outbreak Europe 2024 in Slovakia on Sunday.
Chen, known as B-Boy Quake, won the competition, which had 500 B-Boys taking part.
In the finals, Quake competed against B-Boy Raptor from Ukraine and gave it his all to win, fulfilling what he calls his “childhood dream.”
Quake told reporters after his win that this wasn't his first time competing at the festival on Sunday.
He made his debut at the competition in 2019 and, through “sheer luck,” made it to the quarter-finals, where he lost to his idol, Venezuelan b-boy Lil G.
Quake said he had been working towards winning the annual Outbreak Europe since the 2019 defeat.
The Taiwanese Olympian added that he also received recognition from Lil G, who was eliminated in the round of 16 this year.
“I really admire B-boy Lil G for promoting Venezuela to the world through breakdancing,” Quake says, “so I've joked that I want to become the Wang Chien-Min (former Taiwanese pitcher for the New York Yankees) of breakdancing and introduce Taiwan to the world through breakdancing.”
In 2024, Quake set many milestones for Taiwan's breakdancing scene.
The 24-year-old represented Taiwan in the first-ever Olympic breakdancing competition in Paris earlier this month, and later became the first Taiwanese to reach the finals at the Notorious IBE, a major hip-hop dance event in the Netherlands.
Although he failed to reach the quarterfinals in Paris, he placed second at Notorious IBE and won Outbreak Europe on Sunday.
He will next compete at the World Championships in Portugal from August 28 to September 1.
