NEW DELHI: India's Tanvi Patri defeated Vietnam's Thi Tu Huyen Nguyen in straight sets to win the under-15 girls singles title in the final of the Badminton Asia U-17 & U-15 Junior Championships in Chengdu, China on Sunday.
The 13-year-old top-seeded Patri defeated the second-seeded opponent 22-20, 21-11 in the final, taking just 34 minutes.
With this achievement, Patri joins the likes of Samiya Imad Farooqui and Tasnim Mir, who won the U-15 girls singles title in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
Patri's dominance was due to the fact that she did not drop a single game in the five matches she played.
In the deciding match, Patri was trailing 11-17 in the opening game but kept his cool as Nguyen made a string of unforced errors, and the Indian grabbed the opportunity with both hands to take the game.
Patri continued his winning momentum and dominated the second game from the start to win the match and capture the gold medal.
India will come back with two medals, including a gold and a bronze.
Gnana Datttu TT won the bronze medal in the U-17 boys' singles on Saturday.
