Texas won a key recruiting battle on Saturday, signing five-star in-state safety Jonah Williams with a commitment.
Williams, ranked No. 10 among 2025 recruits by the 247Sports Composite, chose the Longhorns over Louisiana State, Texas A&M, Oregon and USC. He announced his decision during a ceremony at Galveston (Texas) Ball High School's Coolville Stadium.
With Williams' addition, Texas rose from 12th to seventh in the team rankings.
Williams is Texas' second five-star freshman in the 2025 class and the Longhorns' seventh commitment ranked in the top 150 nationally. He took official visits to Louisiana State, A&M, Oregon, USC and Ohio State in June and took an unofficial visit to Texas on July 25.
Williams is a star baseball player as a pitcher and center fielder and is considered a candidate for the MLB Draft in 2025. His older brother, Nick Williams, was selected in the second round by the Texas Rangers in the 2012 draft.
Jonah Williams played both receiver and defensive back at Ball High School and was named the district Defensive Player of the Year as a junior, recording 58 tackles, four tackles for loss and four interceptions (three interceptions). He returned punts and kickoffs for four touchdowns and caught 20 passes for 474 yards and eight touchdowns as a receiver.
