A chicken is covered in Christmas decorations in Alaska. A string of Christmas lights is wrapped tightly around the animal’s neck. Experts explained that such cases sometimes occur, although they are rare in winter.
The incident happened on Tuesday in Anchorage, Alaska. A chicken was walking around one of the residences on the outskirts of the city. The giant mammal walked very slowly and uncertainly. This animal was noticed by one of the residents of the city who, upon closer inspection, noticed that a string of Christmas lights was wrapped around the animal’s neck.
They fight with nets and fences
The woman immediately contacted the Alaska Department of Fish and Wildlife (ADF&G). Experts asked him to observe the bird from a safe place and stay away from the animal. By the time officers arrived at the scene, he had managed to free himself from the traffic lights.
As ADF&G’s Corey Stantorf explained, such cases do happen occasionally — each year the department receives 10 to 20 reports of moose at various properties. This usually happens during the mating season, at the end of September, when brave males sometimes attack fences, turns or nets. However, it is rare to see an animal entangled in Christmas tree lights, and such situations can be fatal for a bird.
– The mouse tries to free itself until it finally dies from the heat, – he explained. He also praised this woman for her awareness and quick communication with specialists. – We want to get information about such events. That way we can assess what’s going on, how entangled the animal is and whether there’s a chance it can be freed, he added.
