Ineos Automotive, the manufacturer of vehicles belonging to the businessman of several millionaires and co-owner of Manchester United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, recalled more than 7,000 of its public sports service vehicles (SUV) in the United States.
The recall focuses on the locks that may not get started properly, which could lead to the doors to open the Grenadier SUVs while being trained “increasing the risk of passenger injury inside the vehicle”.
To solve the problem, Ineos says that it will replace all the door button assemblies on affected vehicles.
The recall is the last issue encountered by the automobile, which had to temporarily interrupt manufacturing after one of its parts suppliers has become insolvent.
The recall affects the Grenadier SUVs of INEOS produced between July 6, 2023 and April 19, 2024.
The doorstep mechanism on affected vehicles may have been assembled without sufficient fat, according to a national background of road safety safety (NHTSA).
“This can allow the buttons of the exterior door to stay in a depressed position and prevent the door from locking completely,” said the document.
Launched in 2022, the grenadier was the first vehicle produced by Ineos Automotive. He is inspired by the emblematic defender of Land Rover.
Sir Jim’s decision to start the automobile was motivated by his disappointment in the face of Jaguar Land Rover’s decision to stop making the defender.
In 2020, the entrepreneur, who campaigned for leave with a view to the 2016 Brexit referendum, announced that the vehicle would be assembled in France, ending the hope that it would be manufactured in a Wales factory.
According to the company, there are currently around 20,000 grenadiers on the road in 50 countries around the world.
Ineos Automotive lost more than 1.4 billion euros (1.1 billion pounds sterling, $ 1.5 billion) before tax in 2023, according to a file with the house of British registry companies.
Sir Jim, who is one of the wealthiest people in the United Kingdom, has a 27.7% stake in Manchester United.
