“There was a targeted terrorist attack on the Ursa Major” on Tuesday, the company said in a statement, but did not say who carried it out or why. Obolon Logistics said there were “three further explosions” before water entered the container ship.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the ship sank several days ago after an explosion in its engine room in the Mediterranean Sea between Spain and Algeria. As a result of the accident, two people died and 14 crew members were rescued by Spanish rescue teams.

Oboron Logistics previously announced that the ship was carrying ice-breaking tools and a port crane that will be installed in the port of Vladivostok. The company is responsible for transporting and delivering Russian military equipment.
The ship may have been loaded with weapons. According to the Kiev Post, two 45-ton hatches for the icebreaker's nuclear reactor and two Liebherr port cranes were to be transported to Vladivostok and were scheduled to arrive on January 22.
