Kayaks, yachts and motorboats have been using the Vistula Spit for more than two years, and this was not PiS’s advanced investment concept. The change of government ends the debate on the deepening of the kilometer-long Elblag waterway. The government does it, not the local government – it’s already tender.
Without the deepening of the waterway in Elblag itself, ships coming from the Baltic Sea through the canal and the Vistula Lagoon before Elblag will sink, because the last 900 meters of the city’s harbor are too small and narrow for sea vessels. Therefore, the government has announced a tender for the deepening of this section.
– Excavation of tuff, for which about 2 billion PLN was spent, will be extremely useful, – emphasized Arkadiusz Marchewka, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure.

The united right-wing government planned and built a ditch without deepening the section in the port itself, and when it was opened, it was assumed that either the authorities of Elblag would complete the canal with their own money, or they would hand over the city’s port. to the state.

“Investment is more touristic”
The shipping line should be widened and deepened. This will initially cost PLN 30 million more than planned in the minimal version.

Last year, less than 2,000 ships passed through Spiti Vistula, 3/4 of which were yachts and motors. In December, traffic was almost completely stopped. Some days, no ships passed through the channel.
– At the moment, this investment is more touristic than commercial in nature – admits Arkadiusz Zglinski from Elblag Port Authority. This may change in the first two years, as it takes that long to deepen the final straight.
