After a landslide, part of the highway was closed in the city of Bellingham, Washington, USA. Two cars were left on the road, but no one was injured, the service reports.
Heavy rains lashed Washington state over the weekend, causing localized flooding and landslides. In the Bellingham area, mounds of dirt and rocks slid onto Interstate 5 early Sunday morning. Its northern part was blocked, and southbound traffic was limited to one lane, local media reported.
According to the service, as a result of the landslide, a car and a truck with a semi-trailer were left on the road. No one was hurt.
It is not yet known when traffic on the highway will be fully restored.
“Flooding all over the city”
Local police posted on social media: “The amount of rain this weekend has caused flooding on roads across the city. Please take extra care if you must drive today.”
The National Weather Service (NWS) said Bellingham Airport recorded more than 50 liters of rain per square meter on Sunday, the city's second wettest October day. The record date in this area remains October 16, 2003.
