Police find the body of a newborn baby who went missing from a ward at Vienna's Favoriten Hospital
The newborn's body was discovered by Austrian police on Friday morning. The search for a child who disappeared from a ward at Vienna's Favoriten Hospital has been ongoing since Thursday. The creepy discovery was made in a dumpster near the facility. The child's mother was arrested.
Vienna police advised on Thursday that people should only enter the premises of Favoriten Hospital “in case of emergency”. “There is no threat to the people staying there,” it added.
Search for a newborn in Vienna
The reason was a large-scale search for a newborn whose mother had reported her missing. The 30-year-old woman returned to the room where she had been left alone for a while and informed medical staff that her child was missing.

Investigators did not rule out kidnapping. As heute.at reported, “They literally turned the hospital area upside down.” The search continued outside the facility, searching trash cans, vehicles, a nearby construction site, and even a nearby sewage plant. Tracking dogs and drones were involved in the operation.
Police provided tragic information. Girl's mother arrested
On Friday morning, Austrian police broke the tragic news on Platform X. “As part of the ongoing investigation, the body of a child was discovered near Favoriten Hospital this morning,” we read.
The derstandard.at portal reported that the child's mother was arrested in the case. Investigators suspect she is behind the girl's murder. The 30-year-old man has pleaded not guilty.

The body was reportedly found in a nearby trash can. The area has been sealed off and a criminal investigation is underway, the portal said.
The newborn was admitted with his mother in the neonatal ward for 1 week. The girl was a premature baby.
