Negotiations with the Dominican side on the procedure for the extradition of Pawel Sopa to Poland are ongoing, Attorney General Anna Adamiak said on Saturday. He added that two procedures are possible: extradition or deportation. As reported by tvn24.pl journalist Robert Zielinski, the ELPACCTO team participated in the arrest operation of Sopa – a unit operating in the General Secretariat of Interpol, which was created to fight the most serious international organized crimes in South America, the Caribbean and Europe.
Pavel Sopa, businessman, creator of the Red is Bad brand, was wanted in connection with the investigation of violations in the State Agency for Strategic Resources, in which he is suspected. He was arrested in the Dominican Republic on Friday.
The press secretary of the General Prosecutor's Office, Anna Adamiak, said in a press conference on Saturday morning that since Friday, the prosecutors of the Silesia Department, the prosecutor's unit, which conducted the trial in “Pavel S. in constant contact with the Dominican side using our consular services.
– Consul of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Panama to determine the procedure for the transfer of Mr. Pavel S. will take measures to Poland, – he added.
He reminded that this regime can consist of two procedures.
– The first is the order of its extradition, because Mr. Pavel S. He was arrested on the basis of an international arrest warrant, which initiates a search procedure and, as a result, an extradition procedure. But in this case, the deportation procedure can also be applied, which is much more efficient and takes less time, because it is an administrative procedure and, at least in Poland, the decision on this is made by the competent commandant of the Border Guards, said Adamiak.
– We, of course, are waiting for the position of the Dominican side, because it is the authorities of this country that cooperated in the transfer of Mr. Pavel S.
The spokesman emphasized that Poland does not have an extradition agreement signed with the Dominican Republic. But he emphasized that “this does not exclude the possibility of bringing the detainees to Poland in such proceedings, because the principle of reciprocity is applied in international customs that regulates good relations between states.”
