More than two months ago, this crew was arrested in the Brazilian port of San Luis. – We are organizing their return from Friday. We bought tickets to Warsaw, Berlin, Krakow, Sofia and Bucharest, said the speaker.
The ship's crew was in Brazil after cocaine was found on board.
– Our role as the owner of the ship ended when the crew members were released, their passports were returned and they were allowed to leave Brazil. We are organizing their return from Friday, Polish Shipping Company spokesman Krzysztof Gogol said on Sunday. – Sailors are private individuals. I cannot speak about their further fate, he emphasized.
Suspicious packages
At the beginning of October, the cargo ship of the PZM fleet “Chavor” arrived at the Brazilian port of Ithaca in San Luis to unload a load of soybeans. This cargo was arrested on October 4 in the anchorage of the port of San Luis by Brazilian authorities. Drugs were found in one of the ship's rooms. PŻM spokesman reported that the suspicious packages were found by one of the sailors at night, and the captain of the ship immediately reported this information to the agent working for the owner of the ship, and then to the local authorities. After checking the wrapped packages, it was found that they contain almost half a ton of cocaine.
The crew of twenty people consisted of 10 Poles, Ukrainians, Bulgarians and Romanians. The captain and sailors of the ship were interrogated for several weeks. They were not arrested. They stayed in a hotel but were not allowed to leave the city or Brazil. The PŻM and Polish consular services provided them with legal assistance. Last week, the members of “Javor” received permission from the court to leave. No one has been charged criminally.
– The judge of the federal court of Maranhao province, Jose Magno Linjares Moraes, decided to allow all the crew members of the “Yavor” ship to return their passports, and therefore allowed them to leave Brazil, – reports Gogol. He explained that the court received a statement from the Brazilian Federal Police, in which the officers confirmed that there was no need to maintain any preventive measures against them. The decisions of the court and the police were confirmed by the Maranhão provincial prosecutor Jose Raimundo Leite Filho.
– We bought plane tickets for all crew members. “He flew to Berlin, Krakow, Sofia, Bucharest and the largest group flew to Warsaw,” said the representative of PZM.
The cargo ship “Javor” was in Brazil to pick up a cargo of soybeans. After a thorough search of the vessel, the Brazilian authorities agreed to the loading. In October, the unit sailed to the Netherlands with a changed crew.
The investigation is ongoing to explain the situation and who hid the drugs on the ship.
The PŻM spokesman explained that the packages were probably planted at night by a specialized group of such operations working for a drug cartel. Packages weighing tens of kilograms were hidden in one of the empty rooms (the so-called empty space) between the superstructure and the holds. Gogol noted that commercial ships are mostly used to transport drugs. South American cartels have special boats and divers at their disposal
