Mrs. Marlena will be a hearing aid 24 hours a day. Only he and the surgeons know where the implant is placed under the skin. Doctors of the World Hearing Center of the city of Kajetani, near Warsaw, performed a pioneering operation. They have reasons to be proud.
The world's first hearing implant, placed completely under the skin, works as doctors hoped in a patient with partial hearing loss. It is Ms. Marlena, 37, who will give the final review.
– He is the only person in the world who can tell you how it works. We can say that it works, we can rely on pre-clinical studies and clinical trials, but he is a user and he is honest in everything he says – explains prof. Henryk Skarzynski, director of the World Hearing Center at the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing in Kajetani.
Ms. Marlena used traditional cochlear implants for the surgery, so she will compare. And besides doctors, only he will know that he has modern implants under his skin.

– It is not only about aesthetics, but also about the fact that the patient is always a hearing patient during the 24 hours of his work, – emphasizes prof. Elżbieta Wlodarczyk, specialist in audiology and phoniatrics, speech therapist at the Institute of Physiology and Hearing Pathology in Katowice.
In addition to the center in Kajetani, clinical trials on new implants are conducted by centers in Belgium and Germany.
The results of this study determine when a technological tool will be used most in hearing care.
– After a few devices, they will be evaluated and analyzed and only then will they be available on the market. I think that it will happen not earlier than one or two years, and then we will know what possibilities there are for compensation, – says prof. Piotr Skarzynski from the World Hearing Center at the Institute of Hearing Physiology and Pathology in Kajetany.
You can only cry for joy
However, it is not necessary to wait for universal access to the latest technologies so that all the neighbors hear about it. An external processor is visible in Ms. Regina's traditional ear implants, but what if her quality of life is dramatically improved.
– Someone was talking to me, I heard him say something, but I didn't understand what he was saying to me. I say: “repeat it again, because I don't understand you” and now it doesn't happen – says Regina Khlopecka.
And Ms. Regina gets such relief after a 20-minute treatment at the expense of the National Health Foundation. “After two or three weeks of surgery, we will install the processor,” explains clinical engineer Grzegorz Grajewski.
WAIT NOW: The number of children and adolescents who need to receive mandatory vaccinations is decreasing. The problem is serious
At the Lodz Hospital, you can cry for joy because you don't have to wait in line. This is especially important for the elderly. – We really wanted to know that there is such an opportunity, to increase both medical staff and patients, – explains the head of the department of laryngology of the regional special hospital, Dr. Beata Kocishevska. Mikolaj Pirgov in Łódź.
Because traditional implants also follow technology. – We test them “dry” and then it turns out that they have returned to this world of better, real sounds that can be heard by people with good hearing, – says Paulina Podlavska-Novak, a specialist in laryngology at the Regional Specialized Hospital. Mikolaj Pirgov in Łódź.
Doctors call this the “wow” effect.
