U.S. News & World Report has named three Penn State Health hospitals among the best in the nation. The magazine named Penn State Health's Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Holy Spirit Medical Center and St. Joseph's Medical Center in its 2024-2025 Best Hospitals Rankings and Ratings. U.S. News ranks hospitals that provide excellence in care in 15 adult specialties and evaluates their performance in specific surgical procedures and medical conditions.

U.S. News ranked Penn State Neuroscience Institute at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center one of the best facilities in the nation for neurology and neurosurgical care. The medical center was also ranked in two additional specialties: gastroenterology and digestive surgery and otolaryngology. Milton S. Hershey Medical Center also excelled in six additional specialties: cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, geriatrics, orthopedics, pulmonology and pulmonary surgery, and urology. Overall, U.S. News ranked Hershey Medical Center #1 in the Harrisburg metropolitan area and #4 in Pennsylvania.
Holy Spirit Medical Center is rated as a high-performing hospital for treating heart attacks and strokes, while St. Joseph's Medical Center has a high-performing rating for treating heart attacks, heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings are designed to help patients and doctors make informed decisions about where to receive treatment. U.S. News evaluates hospitals based on objective criteria such as clinical outcomes, preventable complications and level of nursing care. State and metropolitan area rankings reflect the area's best-performing hospitals across multiple areas of care.
U.S. News also recognized Milton S. Hershey Medical Center as a hospital of excellence for obstetrics care in the magazine's 2023-24 Best Hospitals for Obstetrics Care rankings.
