The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate announced the withdrawal of three types of herbal teas from the market. High levels of perchlorates were detected in one case and pyrrolizidine alkaloids in the other two cases. GIS emphasized that the batches of the products indicated in the messages should not be consumed.
White Mulberry Herbal Tea – Warning
“As a result of the official inspection of the State Sanitary Inspectorate, the permitted amount of perchlorates in the composition of herbal tea was exceeded,” reads the announcement of the Chief Sanitary Department every Tuesday. Perchlorate in large amounts can inhibit iodine absorption and alter thyroid hormone levels.
The warning applies to two packets of white mulberry herbal tea.

Nettle fix – warning
The second warning, issued by the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate, concerns a batch of nettle herbal tea. “The closest permitted level of pyrrolizidine alkaloids in herbal tea – sting has been exceeded,” wrote the Sanitary Inspectorate in a statement.
