Jordan Love's current backups are Sean Clifford, a fifth-round pick in 2023, and Michael Pratt, a seventh-round pick in 2024. Neither stood out in the preseason this season, but Willis would at least provide a more experienced option.
With a lack of QB talent in the 2022 draft class, Willis was expected to be a potential first-round pick. He ended up falling to third, becoming the third QB selected overall. Willis, Kenny Pickett (first round, 20th overall) and Desmond Ridder (74th) are all with other teams, and other big names like Matt Corral and Sam Howell have moved on. Of course, the final pick in that draft, Brock Purdy, is still with the San Francisco 49ers.
Willis has appeared in 11 games over two seasons, with three starts, but all of those starts came during his 1-2 rookie season. He has completed 53 percent of his 66 passes for 350 yards but has yet to throw an NFL touchdown. The Liberty product also has plenty of leg power, rushing for 144 yards (4.5 average) and a touchdown.
Willis, still just 25, could get another chance to improve his game under Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur, but for now, he should provide a slightly improved Packers quarterback lineup behind Love while he finishes off an unlucky stint in Tennessee.
