It's also interesting to note that Facebook's parent company, Meta, owns four of the top ten most popular social media platforms, including Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger, further solidifying the company's dominance in the industry.
Interestingly, Chinese social media platforms are also gaining importance in the global market, with TikTok becoming a popular video-sharing app globally despite controversy having been banned in India over national security concerns and the US Senate passing a bill that could potentially ban the app.
Other platforms such as WeChat lead the way as China's most popular messaging app with over 1.36 billion active users. This is followed by Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, which has emerged as the dominant player in the short-video content space. These platforms are indicative of China's unique digital ecosystem.

The app currently faces possible bans in several countries over concerns about its content moderation practices, and its billionaire founder and CEO Pavel Durov was recently arrested in Paris.

According to French newspaper Le Monde, the allegations relate to “lawsuits accusing Telegram of complicity in a number of cases related to drug trafficking, supporting terrorism and cyberstalking.”
The Indian government has also launched an investigation into Telegram, which could lead to a ban in the country, as the government is investigating whether the app is being used for blackmail and gambling.
