According to Nikkei Asia, the two automakers are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding on the partnership next week and make an official announcement on September 5th.
A Toyota spokesman said the Nikkei report was not based on a company announcement and declined to comment further.
A BMW spokesman said the information contained in the media reports did not represent any statements by the BMW Group.
“The BMW Group and Toyota Motor Corporation have been cooperating on fuel cell and other technologies for several years, with the common goal of offering new zero-emission mobility solutions,” the BMW spokesman added.
