Jeff Bridges took to the stage at D23 2024 to share new information about the film, saying that it's a “great time” to bring back the venerable series.
“I made the original in 1982 and it's unbelievable. It's amazing… I never thought it would have the legacy it has,” Bridges said. “And now here we are, with technology and AI so pervasive in our lives, it's the perfect time to bring the original back. It's the perfect time to revisit this incredible world. This incredible world is coming to us. And that's what happens with our film.”

Tron: Ares was previously teased with a first look image showing the character in a menacing red suit, and here's the official synopsis:
In Tron: Ares, an advanced program called Ares is sent on a dangerous mission from the digital world into the real world, marking humanity's first encounter with an AI.
Speaking at the Disney Entertainment Showcase, Bridges confirmed that filming has wrapped on the new movie, with co-stars Greta Lee, Evan Peters and Jared Leto discussing their roles. Leto joked that he's never signed a non-disclosure agreement and said he'll be playing the “Ares Master Controller,” a villain who seeks to take over the real world permanently.
Following the introduction, the first trailer for Tron: Ares was shown, in which a man gazes at the stars and wonders if he's alone, before realizing there's intelligent life amongst AI and technology all along.
“There's something at work in my soul I don't understand. I've come here to find something,” Ares says in the trailer. “Something that matters. Persistence.”
