Local authorities said three people were killed and five injured. Ten minutes later, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that four people were killed and 14 injured. Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said three of the 14 injured were in critical condition.
Earlier, Yelikaya reported on social media that a terrorist attack had occurred. “May God have mercy on the victims. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” he wrote.

Reuters stresses that the cause of the explosion and subsequent shooting remains unclear. Emergency services were called to the scene and residents were evacuated from the building.

Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavash commented on the incident online. “I am deeply saddened (…). I pray for God's mercy on our martyrs and the speedy recovery of our wounded. We condemn terrorism. express our condolences,” he wrote.

Turkey's interior ministry chief Ali Erikaya said in the evening that the perpetrators of the attack were likely members of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). The female and male attackers were killed by security forces.
According to Havertürk Police Station, the perpetrators had planned to kill the taxi driver who had stolen the car.
