At least 10 people were killed and 32 injured in a fire at a ski resort in Türkiye. The fire quickly spread throughout the 12-story hotel. Several people had to jump from hotel windows. The cause of the incident is unknown.
A fire broke out in Kartalkaya, a popular ski resort in the Koroglu Daglari Mountains in northwestern Turkey. The fire broke out on the fourth floor of the 12-story hotel at 3:27 a.m. (1:27 a.m. Polish time).

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Erikaya said 10 people were killed and 32 injured. At least three people died after jumping from windows to escape the fire, AFP reporters reported.
“267 employees of various agencies and public services intervened in the fire and rescue operations continue (…). May God have mercy on the citizens who lost their lives. I pray for your recovery,” he wrote. on the X platform.

Abdulaziz Aydin, governor of Bor province, where the incident occurred, said there were 234 guests inside the building. Due to the winter holidays, the hotel occupancy rate was higher than usual, at approximately 90%. He added that the fire likely started in the restaurant, which is located on the fourth floor. However, the exact cause and circumstances are unknown.
Six prosecutors were appointed to investigate the fire. The Minister of Health, Home Affairs and Culture is expected to arrive shortly.

Many recordings were published in the media showing the hotel on fire and smoke rising. Witnesses said the fire spread quickly, leaving many people without a chance to escape.
