ST PAUL, Minn. , July 2, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Solventum announced today that U.S. News & World Report will expand the use of Solventum's 3M™ Ambulatory Potentially Preventable Complications (AM-PPC) software in its analysis of the 2024-2025 Best Hospitals rankings.
“We are pleased to support US News & World Report in expanding Solventum's AM-PPC software into ENT specialty rankings, prostate cancer surgery ratings, and the new gynecologic cancer surgery ratings,” said Dr. Sandeep Wadhwa, global chief medical officer, Healthcare Information Systems, Solventum. “Outpatient care is now mainstream in surgical procedures, and the use of outpatient comorbidity metrics helps inform consumers of the frequency of potentially preventable adverse events. The AM-PPC software helps health systems and providers identify areas of excellence and opportunities for quality improvement, and we are pleased to offer AM-PPC directly on Solventum's widely adopted 3MTM 360 Encompass™ system.”
Developed to address patient safety and quality monitoring of procedures performed in hospital outpatient departments or ambulatory surgery centers. Uses advanced grouping logic to enable care providers, government agencies, patient safety organizations, and payers to identify and analyze potential complications in outpatient settings by specific procedure, service line, provider, and facility within their coding solutions and business intelligence systems. National benchmarks are also included.
Solventum’s preliminary analysis of over 23 million high-risk outpatient surgeries shows that complication rates for certain procedures can be as high as 13%.1 Complications are associated with excessive follow-up visits, emergency department visits and hospitalizations, which can impact patient safety, satisfaction and mental health.
“We look forward to our continued collaboration with Solventum to help drive improved safety in outpatient procedures. While not all complications can be prevented, clearly identifying and addressing them can reduce excessive complications,” said Ben Harder, editor in chief and head of health analytics at U.S. News & World Report. “The use of AM-PPC has been further expanded this year to include ENT specialty rankings, prostate cancer surgery ratings and gynecologic cancer surgery procedure ratings, further strengthening the foundation of patient outcomes measurement in our Best Hospitals rankings.”
1 Analysis conducted using 3M AM-PPC methodology and 2019–2022 CMS SAF files representing all hospital fee-for-service (FFS) claims.
