According to a study published by U.S. News & World Report, Virginia Tech's part-time evening MBA program continues to be ranked as the top part-time MBA program in Virginia. Classes are taught at the Northern Virginia Center and are ranked as the third best program in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
US News & World Report annually ranks part-time MBA degree programs for working professionals and individuals who cannot attend school full-time due to family, work or financial commitments. The rankings are intended to help prospective students find their ideal university. According to US News & World Report's criteria, to be eligible for the rankings, business schools must be accredited by AACSB International, the gold standard for business program accreditation, in summer 2022.
The publication surveyed business schools from fall 2022 through early 2023 and collected data on part-time programs across six ranking factors: peer assessment scores, percentage of part-time students, total number of part-time students, GMAT/GRE scores, undergraduate grade point average and work experience.
The part-time, evening MBA program offered by Pamplin College of Business is designed for full-time working professionals, allowing them to study for their MBA at their own pace while simultaneously enriching their workplace experience with new knowledge and skills. The program's flexible, face-to-face class format enhances the MBA experience, encouraging active participation in lectures and discussions, fostering peer collaboration, and providing opportunities to engage with Virginia Tech's esteemed faculty and network with outstanding alumni.
“This program is customized for working professionals and fosters a dynamic learning environment that allows individuals to complete their MBA at their own pace,” said MBA Program Director Dana Hanson. “Our part-time, evening MBA program not only equips students with essential knowledge and skills, it also fosters a strong connection to the vast Hokie Nation and prepares tomorrow's leaders today.”
Beginning in 2025, the part-time, evening MBA program will relocate to Virginia Tech's Innovation Campus in Alexandria. The state-of-the-art, 300,000-square-foot, 11-story building will provide a cutting-edge environment for the graduate program, scheduled to open in spring 2025. Located adjacent to the Potomac Yards-Virginia Tech Metrorail station, the 3.5-acre Innovation Campus will position Virginia Tech and its future partners near the nation's capital, diverse industries and leading technology companies, including Amazon's HQ2.
Parviz Gandforoush, associate dean for graduate programs, attributed the continued high rankings to students with outstanding academic and professional achievements, faculty who are dedicated to teaching and research, and program staff who have fostered a positive learning community.
“Our ranking is heavily based on our high peer evaluation scores, which we attribute to Pamplin's improving research performance and program curriculum,” Gandforoush said. “Furthermore, our online MBA program also benefits from a high ranking because it maintains academic parity with our part-time evening MBA program, which features many common courses and faculty.”
