Asia-Pacific’s two leading international development policy and finance institutions, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), today announced a significant strengthening of their collaboration through a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). In a critical decade for addressing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this new partnership aims to accelerate progress towards sustainable development in Asia-Pacific by 2030.
The collaboration will focus on acceleration points to advance the SDGs by aligning community needs with national and local policy, service and investment choices. Activities will span joint knowledge creation, policy dialogue, technical assistance and project development across areas such as innovative financing, climate action, sustainable urbanization, rural development and digital technologies for development.
This new blueprint builds on existing efforts and achievements, such as aid monitoring and evaluation in Afghanistan, climate resilience in Papua New Guinea, and inclusive development in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. Most notably, the Partnership has made substantial contributions through the Asia-Pacific SDG Partnership and post-disaster joint needs assessments in emergencies such as the floods in Pakistan.
In a region hit by multiple shocks, these coordinated efforts will support a range of interventions for countries and communities in need, laying the foundations for critical transitions, sustainable development, and long-term resilience.
