The 506,000 yen dime minted in the 1970s was sold for dollars, but is considered highly valuable because it lacks the distinctive mint mark. Moreover, it had been hidden inside the bank for nearly half a century. The current owner of the dime wishes to remain anonymous.
The dime was minted in 1975 at the United States Mint in San Francisco. It is one of two coins that the Mint called “the rarest coins of the 20th century.”
The dime features a portrait of former U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt. However, lacking the distinctive S-shaped mint mark, this coin has gained tremendous value over the years.
