The man did not stop for police questioning and began to flee. During the pursuit, he drove the delivery vehicle into a shopping center, where he struck several people ranging in age from 6 to 75. There was a gunfight. The driver died.
The incident occurred on Saturday around 18:00 local time. Texas State Police initially received a report of a “dangerous driver in a black pickup truck.” When one of the patrol officers tried to stop the man for inspection, the man began to run away. Then the chase began.

Killeen Police Department Officer Ofelia Miramontes said officers intervened on Interstate 14 in Belton, The Associated Press reported. The man drove off the road and into a shopping center parking lot, where he continued to rally around the building.

“The suspect rammed the door and continued running inside the J.C. Penney store, striking multiple people,” said Sergeant Brian Waschko of the Texas Department of Safety. The age range of the injured was 6 to 75. Four people were taken to local hospitals and one person was taken to another facility.
Police neutralized dangerous driver
Police officers and building security joined the pursuit. Sergeant Washko reported that his troops opened fire to “eliminate the threat.” Witnesses to the incident told local media of numerous gunshots and people fleeing in panic.
During the shooting, the male suspect was fatally wounded.
