The Butte County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook that the shooting occurred at a school near the small town of Palermo.
Feather River Adventist School has 33 students, according to its website. The facility is located just over 15 kilometers south of Oroville.
Butte County Sheriff Cory Honea told ABC News that when officers arrived, they found the suspected attacker suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The wound proved fatal.

In the sheriff's opinion, the murder suspect had no connection to the school. His identity has not yet been determined. According to CNN, the man visited the school early Wednesday morning and met with the principal to discuss the student's possible admission.

Two children were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Their health status is currently unknown. Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey told local television station KCRA that two boys were injured. CNN revealed that these were children aged 5 and 6.
“We're thankful they're alive, but they still have a long road ahead of them,” Cory Honea said of the boys' condition, as quoted by CapRadio. The radio station reported that the shooting occurred on the school playground.
The remaining students were transferred to a church in Oroville. The parents arrived at the scene after being informed of the incident.
