The major prize of the American Powerball lottery has been won. The winner who matched the six lucky numbers won almost $500 million. This is the second largest lottery winning amount in 2024.
The $2 coupon was posted at a Quick Mart supermarket in Buford, Georgia.
In the Powerball lottery, players select five numbers out of 69 and one additional number (Powerball) out of 26 numbers. The winning numbers in the previous drawing were 2, 15, 27, 29, 39 and the Powerball number was 20.

The winner took home a prize of $478.2 million. The odds of winning a 6 in the Powerball lottery are 1 in 292.2 million, so you could be pretty lucky.

However, the newly minted millionaire will not receive the full amount immediately. CNN reports that “the winner can choose to pay PLN230.6 million in cash all at once or pay the entire amount in installments over 30 years.” Both amounts are before tax.
American media reports that this is the second-largest Powerball lottery winnings in 2024. The last time it took place on New Year's Day, the amount was over $842 million.

This is also Georgia's first jackpot win since 2016. The highest prize at the time was $246 million.
The largest prize in Powerball lottery history occurred in November 2022. California resident Edwin Castro won $2.04 billion in the lottery.
